Admission Requirements
The McMaster Neuroscience Graduate Program seeks to attract the brightest graduate minds to the field.
Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field and our program embraces the full range of research areas. Thus, students from a range of different undergraduate programs will have appropriate backgrounds for admission to the Neuroscience Graduate program.
Applicants who hold a 4 year Honors undergraduate degree in a field relevant to Neuroscience research with a B+ average in the final year are generally admissible.
International applicants must submit TOEFL scores.
Applicants to the PhD program should have the same background in Neuroscience as entering Master’s students.
Students showing outstanding potential and high academic standing may be accepted directly to the Ph.D. program.
 
 
Before Starting Be Sure to Have...
  1. 1.Names & emails for 2 references
  2. 2.List of all undergrad courses and grades
  3. 3.One page (500 word) Statement of Interest in graduate studies in Neuroscience at McMaster University.

How To Apply -- Application for fall 2012 are now open.
Review of applications for fall Sept 2012 will begin February 1 2012 and continue until all slots are filled.
We encourage you to complete the application as soon as possible for the best chance of acceptance to the program.
The Admissions committee will review applications to identify promising candidates.
The selection is based on:
  1. academic success,
  2. research experience,
  3. statement of research interests,
  4. and letters of recommendation.

Follow these 3 sections to apply for admission to the MiNDS Graduate Program
  1. 1.Browse the MiNDS webpages -
  2. Identify your area of interest and potential supervisors,
  3. contact potential supervisors -- each student considered for the program needs to be supported by a faculty member.
Complete the following 7 steps. These are specific to the Neuroscience Graduate Program
Steps 1-5 are done on-line (these 5 items are submitted electronically and do not need to be mailed)
  1. 1.Complete the Neuroscience on-line application. You will need the email addresses for your 2 references to complete this section. The Neuroscience program will contact your references to obtain their letter of recommendation.
  2. 2.Submit the grades and course weighting for the last 20 university courses that you have completed (not currently taking).
  3. 3.Upload a one page Statement of Interest (500 words). You should compose this with a word processing package and then cut & paste it into the box on the on-line form.
  4. 4.Complete the on-line Curriculum Vitae form (required). You will enter information about your research experiences, conference presentations, publications, and awards/scholarships.  (You may also mail a copy of your CV, however, the admissions committee requires that the on-line information be completed).
Mail the following items to the Neuroscience Graduate Program Admissions (address at the left)
  1. 6.Send an official copy of your transcripts in a sealed envelope from each university that you have attended
  2. 7.For non-english speakers send TOEFL scores (minimum score 92, 580 on paper based; or 237 on computer based)
Complete the following 2 steps to finish your application to McMaster University
  1. 1.Complete the on-line part of the School of Graduate Studies application for admission to Neuroscience program at McMaster University. Be sure to keep a copy your 6 digit application ID number.
  2. 2.Pay the application fee ($100 by credit card through the on-line system).
Please allow 2 week after submission of your application to the Neuroscience Program at McMaster University for us to update the status of your material on the School of Graduate Studies webpage.
